This 300–seat assembly area designed for The Natural History Museum in London was conceived of as a base from which families and school groups would explore the museum.

Custom designed tables differentiated by color and symbol for easy orientation.

In order to create the space, ninety square metres in the basement of the museum were stripped back to their original rich materials and groups of color–coded circular stainless steel tables and matching circular benches were designed. Every four tables are grouped together under a symbol, such as an animal or insect, to help children orient themselves.

The Assembly Area, along with the Investigate Gallery, form the Clore Centre for Education, a public gallery dedicated to interactive educational experiences located in the basement of the museum’s landmarked building.
